Technology at Seymour

At Seymour College, we are committed to preparing our students for participation and leadership in an increasingly complex digital world and, as part of that, supporting the development of their digital citizenship skills.

There is no doubt that 21st century learning is increasingly complex, global and networked, and our challenge as educators is to prepare students, using innovative solutions that provide personalised learning, wherever possible.

With this in mind, the one-to-one initiative at Seymour College is designed to enable students to seamlessly engage with an information-rich world.

From 2023, students in Years 3-6 will be assigned a College laptop.

Year 7–12 students and teachers will use a personal laptop to access the College’s online learning tools. Access to internet, intranet/portal, software and hardware is required by all. These students, working at a more independent level than the younger students, will have individual anywhere, any-time access to their own personal device.

Through our one-to-one laptop program, students are given the benefit of College-provided software, including the Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite, email and multimedia tools.

The College will install additional network management and security applications on all devices using the College network. All software required by the student is included and licenced for the life of the student’s enrolment at the College.

Devices for Middle Years

Incoming Year 7-9 students use a Windows device with touch and pen support. This will ensure the widest range of features will be available to all students to maximise their learning.

Apple laptops are not permitted as a College device for Year 7-9 students.

The College has partnered with Learning with Technologies to make it easy to order a suitable laptop for students. Learning with Technologies have created an ordering portal for Seymour families to order laptops with optional upgrades and insurance. The Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) is strongly recommended.

The current recommended model is the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 3 – 13.3″, Ryzen 5, 256GB including three year warranty.

Pricing and upgrade options are available via the portal link below.

Order your device from the portal

Please note, due to Government legislation, accidental damage insurance is unable to be sold at the same time as the laptop. There must be five days between the order of the laptop and the accidental damage protection product. If you want accidental damage protection, please select one of the ADP options and Learning with Technologies will be in touch with you after five days to confirm that you want to purchase ADP and then take the payment for this separately.

Due to global shortages and supply chain interruptions it is presently difficult to predict the arrival time of the new laptops, however our partner Learning with Technologies is working closely with Lenovo to ensure that there is stock available in Australia.

Devices for Senior Years

Students in Years 10 to 12 can choose a Windows or Apple device, but the College recommends that families consider very carefully the full range of functionality which best supports their daughter’s learning and opportunities for the future.

Alternative options

While it is highly recommended that the students have the same device, we understand that some families may already have a suitable device or wish to purchase something other than the recommended model.

If you intend to do this, please refer to the minimum specifications below and purchase your daughter’s laptop outside of the portal.

If purchasing a laptop outside of the portal, minimum recommended specifications are:

  • Windows device (required for Years 7-9 / not required for Years 10-12)
  • Intel i5 / AMD Ryzen 5 or equivalent
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • Touch screen and pen (required for Years 7-9 / not required for Years 10-12)
  • You can also purchase Accidental Damage Protection ( sometimes known as a ‘Care Pack’) at the same time (this is highly recommended).
  • You are welcome to have it shipped directly to the College for setup – Seymour College, 546 Portrush Road, Glen Osmond SA 5064.
  • Please email helpdesk@seymour.sa.edu.au if you plan to have the laptop delivered to the College.
