Letter from the President
Dear fellow Old Collegians,
It is with pride that we sing the words from our school song:
2016 has been another busy year for the PGC/Seymour College Old Collegians’ Association with the gracious support of Old Collegians and the College community.
Term 1 began with Alfresco Drinks in the Quad on Friday 19 February – a lovely evening despite the windy weather! The first reunion for the Class of 2015 was a pizza night, and those who attended were most appreciative to receive the latest Black Watch magazine featuring themselves in their final year.
Once again, Sports Day demonstrated our spectacular community spirit. Old Collegians, parents and friends attended and contributed to making this a most successful and memorable day for the College.
In Term 2, the Junior School welcomed Old Collegians to share in the Clan Douglas assembly followed by morning tea in the Resource Centre. The Old Collegians in attendance were delighted to see how the girls celebrate a Clan birthday. The Douglas Old Collegians had the rare opportunity to participate in the singing of their Clan song.
Early in Term 3 we held our inaugural Quiz Night in the auditorium of the CPA. This most enjoyable evening raised money towards the refurbishment of McGregor Hall in the Junior School. The OCA Bridge Day was also a busy event, with forty-eight ladies enjoying the game, conversation and luncheon.
The final term saw the annual Golf Day, held on Monday 7 November. Successfully convened by Vicki Jordan (Opie, ’77), it was a poignant and special day in memory of Ingrid Esau (’68), who was actively involved in this event for over 20 years.
Ingrid’s daughter Amelia (’12) presented the new Ingrid Esau Cup to the winning College on the day. Our sincere thanks go to Vicki for her time, care and efforts with this event.
The AGM for our association was held on Tuesday 15 November with a successful vote on changes to our constitution. The Executive Committee for 2017 is as follows:
President: Tracye Koerner (’77)
Vice President: Annie Howard (Townsend, ’88)
Secretary: Margaret Pointon (Wait, ’77)
Assistant Secretary: Patricia Halloran (Pike, ’50)
Treasurer: Lucy Schulze (’07)
Angela Basedow (Wilson, ’80), Melissa Codling (Bowden, ’83), Leticia Custance (’10), Isabela Klemich (’09), Jenny Mere (Day, ’77), Ann Olsson (’77), Theone Papps (’07) and Josette Wood (Mansfield, ’89).
The St Andrew’s Day Assembly and Luncheon was held on Monday 28 November.
The guest speaker at the assembly was Pearl Li (’09), who was Head Girl in her final year at Seymour. Pearl amazed us with her insightful and informative talk, reflecting on her service to the community whilst at Seymour and continuing with the Red Cross since leaving.
63 Old Collegians then attended the luncheon, enjoying a tasty meal and excellent conversation.
The OCA’s last hurrah in the Junior School for 2016 was catering for their Swimming Carnival. The final event was the special Year 12 Breakfast, held on the last day of term. Set up on the Boarding House lawn, the Class of 2016 enjoyed the breakfast and received their certificate of membership to the OCA along with their badges.
The regional luncheons are important in connecting Old Collegians with each other and the College. Special thanks to Di Harvey (’61) for convening the always popular Fleurieu Luncheon. We also reintroduced an Adelaide luncheon this year and hope to make this into a successful annual event.
The College hosts the popular milestone year reunion program with Old Collegians visiting the College and re-engaging with old friends.
The OCA sporting clubs have maintained their numbers and enthusiasm. Our thanks to Victoria Akkermans (’12); Tasha Koerner-Bungey (’12) and Alison Sporne (Penn, ’91); and Josette Wood (Mansfield, ’89) for their time and efforts liaising with committee and the soccer, netball and hockey teams respectively.
The OCA committee would like to acknowledge and thank Vicky Lekis and Theresa Dingley, who liaise with and have supported us throughout the year. This year we welcome Vanessa Edwards to the Advancement team. Vanessa has worked for Seymour College for 2 ½ years, previously in administration at The Early Years. She is looking forward to supporting the OCA and meeting Old Collegians in her new role.
I am privileged to be a part of an energetic team of passionate Old Collegians whose vision toward the future will bring positive change and improved communication to all in our association. My sincere thanks to everyone on the committee for their time and efforts throughout the past year.
We look forward to celebrating the 95th year of the college in 2017, and we will then plan ahead for our centenary in 2022.
