| FROM A UNITING CHURCH HOLY COMMUNION SERVICE: [Words in bold are said by the whole congregation.] OPENING PRAYER: Eternal God, Lord of heaven and earth, we praise you for your greatness. Your wisdom is seen in all your works. Your grace and truth are revealed in Jesus Christ your Son. Your presence and power are given to us through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, O blessed Trinity, we worship and adore you for ever and ever. Amen. CONFESSION: In penitence and faith, let us confess our sins to almighty God. Let us pray: Merciful God, our maker and our judge, we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed: we have not loved you with our whole heart, we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We repent, and are sorry for all our sins. Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you in newness of life; through Jesus Chris our Lord. Amen. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) Hear then Christ's word of grace to us: All thanks and praise, glory and honour, be yours at all times, and in
every place, creator Lord, holy Father, true and living God. We praise
you that through your eternal Word you brought the universe into being
and made us in your own image. You have given us this earth to care for
and delight in, and with its bounty you preserve our life. Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are
full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. PRAYER OF CONSECRATION: And now, Father, we thank you for these gifts of your creation, this
bread and this wine, and we pray that we who eat and drink them in the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit in obedience to our Saviour Christ may be
partakers of his body and blood, and be made one with him and with each
other in peace and love. With this bread and this cup we show forth Christ's death until he comes
in glory. THE LORD'S PRAYER: Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name, your kingdom come, your
will be done on earth as in heaven. The minister takes the bread and breaks it in full view of the people,
in silence or saying: The minister lifts the cup in full view of the people, in silence, or
saying: The minister holds out the bread and the cup to the people and says: THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE BREAD AND WINE: Words such as the following are said before or during the distribution: THE PRAYER OF THANKGIVING: Father of all, we give you thanks and praise that when we were still far off you met us in your Son and brought us home. Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory. May we who share Christ's body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world. Anchor us in this hope that we have grasped; so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. THE BLESSING: The blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
be upon you and remain with you always. Amen. |
