Year
6 to Year 9
To cater for the
specific needs of young adolescents at this period
of significant and diverse growth, Seymour operates
a Middle School from Years 6 to 9. As these
transitional years can be challenging for young
people, the Seymour Middle School provides a
caring, inclusive and structured environment which
is conducive to the development of positive
self-esteem and a sense of personal achievement.
During this important phase in their schooling,
decisive patterns in study habits and social skills
are formed through carefully planned academic and
pastoral care programs.
Form teachers are
pivotal, providing close guidance and care. Contact
with their students is reinforced through their
dual role as subject teachers. Students also work
with well qualified specialist teachers, thus
enhancing their learning across all subject areas
and providing a gradual transition from a primary
model of education through to a secondary
model.
Outdoor Education
and Orientation camps, Study Tours and special
Middle School activity days add another important
dimension to students' learning and personal
development. Outdoor pursuits such as aquatic
activities, bushwalking and camping skills, problem
solving tasks, initiative and communication games
and environmental awareness programs and vertically
grouped socialisation activities are both
challenging and motivational. They are thoroughly
enjoyed by the girls who revel in the opportunity
to be involved in such pursuits.
