The encouragement I have received at Seymour has made me want to do my best and get where I want in life
Mothers’ Day was celebrated at Seymour, last week, with the P&F’s very popular Mothers’ Day morning tea. Guest speaker, Rhodanthe Lipsett OAM (’39) – whose book on baby care was recently relaunched by the Governor General – spoke of her many happy memories as a student and boarder at PGC from 1935 to 1939. Sincere thanks to the P&F for all their efforts to provide for guests a most enjoyable occasion. (Rhodanthe is pictured below with her Year 12 granddaughter, Ellie.)

Well done to Clan Douglas on their successful 85th birthday celebrations. Chief, Chelsea, and Chieftains, Tasha and Meg, hosted a terrific Barr Smith campus assembly, inviting Julie Von Doussa (’82) back to her former school to be their guest speaker. We were also pleased to welcome back for this celebration 2011 Douglas Chieftain, Georgie. The McGregor campus celebrated Douglas’ birthday on Thursday, and the girls did a great job of hosting a fun-filled and entertaining celebration for our younger students. A celebratory lunch was enjoyed by Barr Smith and McGregor Clan members in the Sports Centre.
Well done to both Seymour teams that competed at the Preliminary Finals of the Aerobics competition on the weekend. We were very proud of the performances of both teams, and it was terrific to see present, as moral support, the members of Seymour’s third team, even though those girls weren’t competing on the day. We were delighted to learn that both of our teams won their way through to the State Finals in June, and we wish them well. We know they’ve been making very good use of Ngunyawayiti, our new dance studio, at lunchtimes and whenever time permits!
Congratulations to Year 12 student, Erin, on being awarded The David Tonkin Scholarship for 2012. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student aged 16 to 18 who lives in the Bragg area and, since that time, Seymour students have won it five times: in 2005, Anitha; in 2006, Jacqui; in 2008, Monika; in 2010, Erica; and now Erin!
The College also congratulates Year 11 students, Ebony and Susie, for being invited by, and sponsored to participate in the YWCA leadership conference, later this year. It’s great to see our girls’ leadership qualities recognised in the wider community.
Well done to our Year 10s who were camping under the stars in the Flinders Ranges, last week. The girls are to be congratulated on their positive and good-humoured approach to the experience and challenges they faced on this very special Outdoor Education camp: it’s a terrific camp, but it’s certainly no walk in the park! The girls displayed great support for one another, and spoke of the self- learning they had experienced on this trip, commenting that they’d had to “dig deep” during their week away.

Well done to our Big Band who participated in the Generations in Jazz competition in Mt Gambier, last weekend. The Band performed fabulously, placing 5th in their section.
We congratulate Year 7, Juliet, for her selection in the 12 and Under State Basketball team, and wish her well for this competition.
It’s finished! Yes, the renovation of the College’s Torrens Boat House joint venture with PAC is now complete, and we’re preparing a wonderful celebratory opening event of this latest addition to the College’s facilities. Stay tuned!
Best wishes to Year 11, Georgia, as she competes in Australia’s Got Talent. In February this year, the Black Diamond Drill Dance Team were asked to participate in the sixth season of this talent show, and they received three “yes” votes and a standing ovation! The team also competed in the 2012 Australia Drill Dance Championships, and received six first placings and one third placing.
