The Middle School provides an environment in which girls can grow into young women without feeling uncomfortable, unsafe or out of place

"We are all so happy with what Seymour provides. We think you do an excellent job - thank you."
Firmly believing that girls are ready for the challenges and opportunities that a Middle School can provide, and in order to cater for the specific needs of young adolescents at this period of significant and diverse growth, Seymour College operates its Middle School from Years 6 to 9.
As these transitional years can be challenging for young people, the Seymour Middle School provides an environment and structures which are conducive to the development of positive self-esteem and relationships, and a sense of personal achievement.
During this important phase in young people's schooling, decisive patterns in study habits and social skills are formed through carefully planned academic and pastoral care programs.
The development of positive and significant relationships is an important aspect of Middle Schooling at Seymour. Form teachers are pivotal, providing close guidance and care for each girl, with the relationship being reinforced through their dual role as subject teachers.
As girls move through the Middle School, they are exposed to a widening range of teachers, thus providing a gradual transition from a primary model of education through to a secondary model. Guardians at Years 8 and 9 provide additional levels of pastoral support for girls and families.
Outdoor Education and Orientation camps, Study Tours and special Middle School activities add another important dimension to students' learning and personal development. Excursions and field trips enable the students to engage with their learning beyond the bounds of the classroom.
Cross-age mentoring programs, committees and the College's ethos of community service provide the girls with opportunities to develop leadership skills and to establish important relationships. As leaders of the Middle School, all Year 9 students accept responsibility for specific aspects of the Middle School community.
