"The staff and students made my daughter feel as though she was part of the school from day 1. Thank you for making this such a smooth transition."
"We couldn't be happier with the start that our girls have had at Seymour . . . we have all been embraced by the community. Our girls look forward to every day in the Junior School!"
"We have not seen our daughter this happy for years!"
The Junior School caters for girls and boys at Pre School (aged 3 years) and girls from Preparatory (aged 4 years) through to Year 5.
With its focus set firmly on the development of the whole child, Seymour's Junior School provides a safe environment which is both supportive and stimulating, and in which children are encouraged to take risks in their learning: this is an essential foundation stone for any young student as it helps foster self-confident and independent learners.
All girls are further encouraged to develop positive relationships with their peers and teachers as these are also important underpinnings of any child's success. Our community then celebrates these successes, recognising our students' efforts and achievements not only at school but also within the wider community.
Our Junior School staff works as a team to achieve the vision and values of Seymour College.
The staff plan and program cooperatively to implement curriculum frameworks that provides effective learning outcomes for all students, and create a professional learning environment which promotes the sharing of knowledge and best practise in all classrooms.
Staff strive to provide a warm and exciting setting for learning in the early years: classrooms reflect a stimulating and challenging learning environment, and a most welcoming atmosphere for students and parents.
Our recently completed Resource Centre and ICT Suite provide a hub of learning centrally located to all classrooms within the Junior School.
In addition, the centrally-located McGregor Hall provides for Junior School students a theatre for the students' class and sub-school performances, as well as a weekly meeting place for our Assemblies that celebrate the many facets of Junior School life,
In addition to the Head of Junior School and the team of dedicated classroom teachers and support staff, the Junior School team enjoys the input and support offered by two curriculum leadership positions, as part of our commitment to academic excellence and innovation in the classroom:
Assistant Head of Junior School
The Assistant Head of Junior School is responsible for the day to day administrative organisation of the Junior School. In particular this role also supports teaching staff in developing the curriculum to meet the individual needs of the students across the year levels.
Junior Primary Coordinator
The Junior Primary Coordinator serves as an important link between the Pre School and the Junior Primary years of schooling. The Coordinator provides an oversight of the development of a shared vision for our early childhood areas and the facilitation of collaborative planning and curriculum mapping.
