The Seymour-Saints Musical: The Sentimental Bloke

16 – 18 May 2012 at 7.00pm

Seymour College Centre for Performing Arts

This year's musical was writen by C J D ennis (Clarence James Dennis) and has evolved from his original poem 'The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke' , first published in 1915. It tells the story of Bill, a Melbournian larrikin, who promises to abandon his lifestyle of drinking and gambling when he meets and falls in love with Doreen Lyell, who works in the local pickle factory. Community Learning Forums:

At Seymour College, we believe that learning is, for all of us, a lifelong adventure!

As a result, we are proud to offer to the Seymour and wider communities an interesting, topical and dynamic program of adult learning via our Community Learning Forum.

On offer is a range of workshops and presentations delivered by local, national and international experts on a range of relevant issues.

Areas of focus include justice within our community, the health and wellbeing of young people, and the raising of women of strength, optimism and justice.

Phil Glendenning

'Our First and Last Peoples: the challenges for contemporary society in ensuring justice to Indigenous peoples, refugees and asylum seekers'

Phil Glendenning is the Director of the Edmund Rice Centre, a Sydney-based social justice organisation conducting research into the causes of poverty and inequity in Australia. In awarding Phil Glendenning an honorary doctorate in March 2007, the National Vice-Chancellor of the Australian Catholic University, Professor Peter Sheehan AO, said Mr Glendenning had 'shaken the moral compass of Australian society' for his longstanding dedication to improving the lives of poor, Indigenous, politically dispossessed and suffering people both in Australia and worldwide. This compelling presentation is not to be missed!

Paul Dillon

'Resilience and the importance of connectedness, young people, drugs and alcohol'

Monday, 6 August at 7.00pm

Paul is a regular presenter at Seymour College, working with and supporting our senior students. He has been working in the area of drug education for the past 25 years and has also worked with many school communities to ensure their access to good quality information and best practice drug education.

Kirrilie Smout

'Helping teens through tough times'

Wednesday, 17 October at 7.00pm

Seymour College Centre for Performing Arts

Kirrilie is the Director of Innovate Psychology and works with people suffering anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, work and many other issues. She also conducts seminars on stress management, study skills, motivation, dealing and coping with difficult people and times. Kirrilie works with all ages, but has a special interest in youth and young adults. This presentation will provide parents with useful and practical skills to help our young people navigate their way through some of life's inevitable challenges.

90th birthday celebrations! 

2012 marks the 90th anniversary of the foundation of PGC/Seymour College. To commemorate this important milestone, there will be an OCA Anniversary Dinner on 7 September.
