Career
Planning
Seymour
is committed to an extensive Careers Education
program. From Year 10 onwards students are
encouraged to discover as much as they can about
vocations of interest to them. Students are
involved in a semester unit of career investigation
that incorporates two Vocational Educational
modules, Job Seeking Skills and Writing Skills for
Work. Students visit the Centrelink Careers
Information Centre and attend a Careers Night to
hear speakers on a variety of careers.
In Year 11 all
students spend at least one week on work experience
and are responsible for arranging this with the
help of the Careers Counsellor. At the conclusion
of their placement, they participate in discussions
to maximise the benefits gained through work
experience.
In Year 12 students
are encouraged to seek further work experience
during vacations. All Year 12 students have private
appointments with the Careers Counsellor to discuss
their tertiary or vocational aspirations. A Seymour
education offers a sound basis for entry into the
workforce, either straight from school or following
tertiary study.
